(word 1)
Your thoughts swim around in a pond.
The view is captivating!
Some thoughts are colorful and others tonal.
Some cute. Some scary.
Some are isolated. Others move in groups.
Can you see them?
Some are huge, others teeny.
Some zip by. Others lollygag.
Some live at the surface.
Others lurk in deep waters.
Close your eyes and watch as they move about.
Now jump in. No one’s looking, clothes and all. You’re on an expedition to discover who these guys are. Swim right up, don’t be scared. LISTEN closely. They want to be heard. And no judgments please. No one likes to be judged.
THIS WEEK, discover the underwater world that lives within you. Visit as often as you can, at different times of day. Become familiar with the visual surroundings, the tendencies and traditions that exist there.
Dedicate a notebook to UPWORD and write about your trips. Engage all the senses – sight, smell, touch, taste and hearing. Describe as personally as you can. What thoughts are there? What do they look like? You’re taking inventory.
I LOVE UPWORD!!! It’s so amazing. I was having a bad day, but as soon as I read it, it inspired me!
Well done! Have started my 2010 UPword “pictionary”–your words, my sketches. Also, mini card with your picture and word thoughts now residing in the Beckoning Bag.
When I started listening to my thoughts, I only heard the negative ones, especially about myself…there were a lot of them. Awareness helped me eliminate them. I had to learn to be compassionate to myself…as well as others. It’s hard work, but it’s well worth the effort. Thanks for the reminder, Lori.
Lori – this is such a great thing. Such a great way to uplevel one’s thinking every week. I have started an Upword journal and will be posting my experiences with the word of the week on my blog every saturday. Listen had so many things for me this week. I turned off background noise and became more fully present. I stopped multitasking and listened to me. The thoughts that were swimming around in there had nowhere to hide! Go check out http://ghentfever.blogspot.com if you want to read more on how Upword helped me this week!
The upword “listen” immediateley made me aware of my surroundings. As I took my dog for a walk, I tuned in to the wonderful sound of birds chirping. Even here in the midst of winter in Michigan, the birds have their own little language in their own little world that surrounds us. On another day I tried to here the sound of silence. I discovered that this is completely impossible to do. Even if you were in a sound proof room, you would here your own breathing!
